Note: I really didn’t feel very strong about this message. I struggled with it all week long and then went on the Men’s Fishing Trip over the weekend. I was mentally exhausted on Sunday and because a few good set-up team members were missing or late, I was distracted again. As a result, I didn’t feel very good about the message, but I’d love to get your comments on how you think it went.

It’s a widely held belief that what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger, but we still don’t want to go through the process it takes to get stronger. In this message, I try to show how having a priority of progress can put pain in perspective.

It is an interesting turn of phrase that occurs most often in Christian circles, but finds its way in the conversations of anyone really. We know it is important for us to love people, but we don’t really know why, and most importantly, we don’t know how to love people because frankly, there are a lot of people we just don’t like.

In this sermon, I address what Jesus calls the second greatest commandment—one that is so important to him that when asked what the greatest commandment was, he actually had to say this one too. That commandment is for us to love other people. In this sermon, I address the meaning of that command and I give 5 tools for how to love someone even when you don’t like him or her.

Our world is filled with mixed messages. We are constantly told what to do and what not to do by Oprah, Dr. Phil, Matt Lauer, Barbara Walters, Ryan Seacrest, Simon Cowell, the Newspaper, and the Internet, not to mention Television Advertising!

The real question is how do we filter through all the mixed messages to get to what’s really important? How do we regain our priorities in a world that pulls us in 20 different directions all at once?
