In the living room of my in-laws’ home I watched an episode of Law and Order that I haven’t seen before, and it bothered me quite a bit.
The victim was a young man who had tried unsuccessfully to “recover” from homosexuality through the counseling and support of a religious group called Regenesis. One of the [...]
It seems so capricious and uncaring that a God would allow his own son to suffer, until you get the bigger picture that God loved the sinful world so much that he sacrificed one son, for three days, to gain billions of children for a sinless eternity.
We look at all pain and suffering from the [...]
As I have spoken with people about the Bible, I find more and more that people aren’t really familiar with the “plot” or the overall story of the Bible. Therefore, I’m going to try to go through the entire story of the Bible in a very brief overview fashion. The challenge is that I don’t [...]
James 1:2-3 gives the standard Christian answer to this question:
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance…
Of course, knowing the Sunday school answer and being okay with it are two different things entirely, but this week, I [...]
I read this article recently where the author is talking about how to make users of your product or service happy. The basic premise of the article is that you should make the right things easy and the wrong things hard.
A great illustration of this is a three pronged electrical plug. There is only one way that the plug can go [...]
I was disturbed to see this video from Barack Obama talking about his intentions regarding the abortion issue…
I learned about this video from http://theologica.blogspot.com/2008/08/obama-and-freedom-of-choice-act.html. Be sure to visit that blog and check out the information there on the Freedom of Choice Act. Morally disturbing.
What’s the real issue?
Apparently, we are facing the [...]
In the church I pastor, ReCOMMITMENT is something we do once a year in terms of church services, but it certainly shouldn’t be so in terms of our spiritual lives. The Bible is clear that the spiritual life is not one that can be lived on the basis of one commitment made many years in [...]
Every year at this time, I begin to think critically about the resurrection of Jesus. Yeah, you heard me right. I said, “critically“. Just because I’m a pastor, that doesn’t mean I accept everything in the Bible without thinking about it too. I’m a thinker, I majored in mathematics and philosophy at Wheaton College, and [...]
This week at my Life Group, we looked at the clearest teaching in the Bible regarding the rapture, and I’ve become even more convicted about one particular position. This post is intended to guide you through the same study we considered this week and to give an inside track on what I’m currently thinking about [...]
This last Sunday, a lady in my church gave me a blue card with some questions on it regarding tithing. Since my email to her was rather long-winded, I thought I would share some of those thoughts here.
Deuteronomy 26:2-15 Verse 2 says to take “some” of the firstfruits. [...]
I loved reading this entire debate. This really goes to show how often all Christians are lumped together in people's opinions. People like to believe that all Christians are hateful and judgmental, but while homosexuals, homosexual advocates, or non-believers are accusing Christians of these things they are themselves guilty of the same. The reason why I came to this page in the first place is because I have a friend who is gay and we've been debating back in forth on the gay rights agenda and whether or not being a homosexual is a sin, and he told me to watch the movie that your original post was about. I suppose he wants me to watch it so I can see that you can be a Christian and a homosexual at the same time. I guess I need to see it for myself so I can form my own opinion, but I really appreciate you taking the time to give your opinion and then to defend it to someone who decided to make it very personal against you. I very much admire your level head throughout in the face of such animosity.
Jeff,
I like your blog and the section that describes your beliefs
I like that and do share the same beliefs.
I used to be in a Church that denied Christ's Diety and I finally
broke away from that CULT, problem is my wife is still a hardcore
member of that particuliar Church.
Wishing you the Best
yours in Christ
Thank you, Deborah....More and more churches are becoming "welcoming" churches, where the homosexual community can go to worship. I am so happy that is becoming more and more frequent. How can these children know and love God without the fellowship and community that the church can offer. It is only by our example will we lead others to the Lord. The sad thing is that still the majority of churches are not welcoming, making it very uncomfortable for these children to attend.
I truly believe God will speak to them if we can find a way to show them God in our behavior and words.
@ Kathie, you have given a wonderful and most thoughtful response. I understand that homosexuality is not acceptable according to scripture, however, those who God created are acceptable. We are commanded to love each other.Of course, how can we say we love God, whom we cant see if we dont love our neighbors whom we see every day. Thank you for that affirmation and the opportunity to open the door for someone whose life style and choices dont fit into the nice tidy description that some christians reserve for themselves.
